Playing and Coaching members of Bournemouth Rugby Football Club (BRFC) are covered by the Rugby Football Union’s Compulsory Insurance Scheme. This scheme provides cover in the event of death from accidental bodily injury and up to £500,000 in the event of permanent total disability.

The RFU Compulsory Scheme does not cover any injury other than an injury that causes permanent total disability. The Executive committee of BRFC encourages all players to take out insurance, at their own expense, to cover themselves for the cost of medical treatment for serious injuries and loss of earnings while injured.
There are a number of companies in the local area who offer this type of cover. The annual premium is determined by the level of cover purchased and may be paid by instalments. The policies offer the flexibility to balance the level of protection required against the premium that one wishes to pay. It is possible to find cover from as little as £5 per month. Policies are available for adults and juniors. There are insurance companies who sponsor BRFC and these will be happy to discuss this type of cover and provide quotes. BRFC does not, however, endorse any of these companies’ products.
Referees’ & Coaches’ Liability
The RFU has put Public Liability Insurance in place for any person acting as a referee; touch judge, coach, trainer, instructor or voluntary medical attendant (excluding qualified medical practitioners acting in a medical capacity). Cover operates at any rugby match, practice game or training session. Details are available on pages 7/8 of the RFU Compulsory Scheme document already mentioned.
